A group under the aegis of Progressive Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum has thrown its weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopeful in the 2023 gubernatorial election in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, saying they would fully support him to ensure his victory at the poll.
The group made their stand known during a solidarity visit to the Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy President of the Senate, Pastor (Comrade) Edewor Egedegbe on Tuesday, in Warri.
The group, which was led by “Gen.” Victor Maika, the Ogumene I of Niger Delta (Kemekoruo Camp) lamented failure of PDP in the state, saying: “PDP has failed the people of Delta state in her over 23 years of governance,” adding that efforts must be made to end the PDP reign in Delta state come 2023.
Continuing, “Gen.” Victor Maika called on Deltans to put all efforts to “deliver” Distinguished Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege in the 2023 governorship election for the betterment of the state. He enjoined the DSP Aide, Pastor Egedegbe to urgently communicate to Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege their unwavering resolve to support his mission of governing Delta State next year, even as he asked for an early date to make their public declaration with their teaming supporters across board in the coming days ahead of Campaigns.
The group’s statement read: “We, the members of the Progressive Niger Delta Ex-agitators Forum, comprising seven (7) Ex- Militant groups with over One Thousand (1000) members have made up our minds to “deliver” Most Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Delta State Governorship Candidate of APC come march 2023.
“We need a change. PDP has ruled Delta state for many years but there’s no development and industry to employ the teeming unemployed youths of the state. Most especially, we, from the Ijaw area are disappointed that after we have suffered to “deliver” PDP in successive governorship elections, from 1999 till date, we are worse neglected as underdevelopment is wide spread. We will not support PDP again. With our blood and soul, we have rejected PDP in Delta state, no amount of persuasion, blackmail and intimidation can change our minds, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is the answer Deltans have been waiting.
The statement continued, “we see Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege as a selfless leader who can govern our dear state to a level of advanced transformation and development. We have seen his good works as a Senator and Deputy President of the Senate. He will do better as governor of Delta State in the development of the economy of the state and improving livelihood of Deltans at a commendable degree.
Responding, Pastor Egedegbe commended them for taking a bold and courageous decision to support Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s political race.
