Following the rising insecurity in Nigeria in recent years, human rights activist and Executive Director of Global Action Against Hunger, Crime and Violation of Peoples’ Rights (GAHCAVPER), Comr. Emeka Nwokocha, has commended the Edo State Commissioner of police, Mr. Mohammed DanMallam for raising the bar of effective policing in the state.

Comr. Nwokocha, made the commendation recently, during his quarterly appraisal of the security challenges the country is grappling with. He described the Edo state police Chief as a vibrant and intelligent police officer with the right attitude and frame of mind to fight crime to a standstill.

He said, “I want to commend the Edo state Commissioner of police, Mr. Mohammed DanMallam for displaying uncommon commitment and rare intelligence in the fight against crime in Edo state. No doubts, the dividend of his crime fighting mechanism is fast yielding the desired result. This is evident in the tenacity and precision with which he activates the security architecture of the state with attendant success in making the state safer for the residents and business activities to thrive.”

Continuing, Comr. Nwokocha noted, “in the present day Nigeria, where rising crimes are a recurring decimal, only a police officer with the right frame of mind and untainted patriotism in the mould of CP Mohammed DanMallam would be courageous to fight the criminal elements and bring them to their knees.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that in recent years, incidents of heinous crimes have assumed a worrisome dimension in Nigeria, even as good spirited Nigerians lament the menace. However, it is a cherry news that while the security situation seems hopeless, the ingenuity of the Edo state Commissioner of police in fostering effective policing cannot be over stressed. He has propelled a cordinated action to routing the criminal elements and halting the rising crimes in Edo state to a commendable extent.”

The rights activist noted that the conduct of the personnel of the Edo state police command had been quite impressive since Mr. Mohammed DanMallam became the Commissioner of police.

“I could see a renewed courage and discipline in the police personnel as they carry out their duties with diligence. I have seen the rank and file becoming more professional and civil in their dealings with the public. I am quite impressed about the progressive change of attitude the police personnel bring to their job currently,” Comr. Nwokocha noted.

Recalling that crime rate is usually on the increase in the “ember months,” Comr. Nwokocha, urged the Edo state police Chief to take stricter measures to ensuring the perpetrators of crimes are rounded up and prosecuted.

“The ’ember months’ have just begun in September with a likely rise in crime. Therefore, I call on the Edo state Commissioner of police, CP Mohammed DanMallam to deploy his surveillance team to ensure the nooks and crannies of the state are adequately policed so as to forestall crimes as the year winds up,” he stated.

Adding, “I urge him (CP Mohammed DanMallam) to maintain the courage and commitment he has brought to bear on his job and continue to serve the people of Edo state with diligence and humility.”
