The Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Delta State, Hon. Engr. Matthew Itsekiri, has inspected the Information & Communication Technology ICT innovation hub, Okpanam Road, Asaba, set up by the Delta State Government to train youths in the state.

Speaking shortly after the inspection, the Commissioner said the centre was part of Delta State Government’s efforts to create jobs for the teeming youths in the ICT sector, make them self-reliant, and catalyse socio-economic development of the State, along the ICT value chain.

“This is an effort by Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa towards addressing unemployment by making ICT tools available for youths to significantly encourage and promote digital innovation and job creation in the state “ he said.

Itsekiri further stated that the centre would immediately commence four months free training of 450 youths who in turn would become employers of labour. “The wisdom that underscores the training of our youths is domiciled in the prosperity for all Deltans mantra. It is an initiative that will inspire our youths to be creative and innovative, and if sustained, will go a long away in changing our way of life,” he stated.

Continuing, Itsekiri said, “no fee is attached to the training, once the applicants meet the requirement, they should proceed with the free online registeration”
He disclosed that the training centre has been equipped with state of the art facilities, stating that all the resource persons are already on ground waiting for the free online registeration to round off.
The Commissioner urged the youths to take advantage of the free ICT training to buid capacity for self-employment, rather than depending on government.

He said, “I urge Delta state youths to utilise the opportunities the centre provides for the development of the state.” He added, “the government has provided the conducive environment and logistics for the training.”

The Commissioner, thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for identifying with the need of the people. He expressed optimism that the youths would avail themselves of the opportunities the ICT centre offers them to become entrepreneurs and contribute to the development of the state. “We appreciate Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for these ICT programme. Delta youths will definitely key into this noble initiative to better their lots and take our people to the next level,” Itsekiri said.
