WARRI/Nigeria: A Niger Delta Activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, Thursday called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
In a press statement in Warri, Delta State, the Activist implored the Federal Government to do everything possible for the strike to be called off by ASUU.
Comrade Mulade who is the National Coordinator of Center For Peace And Environmental Justice ( CEPEJ), while describing the strike by University lecturers as unfortunate enjoined the Federal Government to urgently do the needful for the strike not to be prolonged.
“Am not comfortable that our Universities have been placed under lock and key again with our students sent packing. This ongoing strike action by ASUU is very unfortunate, the Federal Government must do everything possible now to wade into the matter so that it can be called off immediately”, the Activist said.
According to him; “We do not have to wait until our Universities are shut down before addressing the needs of our lecturers. The Federal Government must find out a way of avoiding strike action by ASUU. Right now, our students have been forced home again, this is not good enough for our educational system. Lasting solutions must be found to incessant strike actions by ASUU”.
“Am using this medium to call on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency intervene in the ongoing strike action by ASUU and call off the strike because it has national implications on youths of this country. Both parties should go to the negotiating table and resolve the matter in the interest of our students who are at the receiving end of the strike action”, Comrade Mulade said.
