ABUJA/Nigeria: The Arewa Youth Forum has Urges President Tinubu to Ensure Proper Distribution of Fuel Subsidy Palliatives.

In a recent statement, the Arewa Youth Forum (AYF), a prominent Northern group, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the equitable distribution of palliatives aimed at mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removal. The group also criticized the recent surge in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol.

The statement, signed by AYF’s National President, Comrade Ahmed Mohammed Zagi, expressed concern over the controversy surrounding the Federal Government’s planned palliatives following the removal of petroleum subsidy. The AYF was taken aback by the subsequent increase in petrol prices, which now stands at over N600.

“Already, several Nigerians have been badly hit by the subsidy removal. It would, therefore, be a disservice to the nation if the proceeds fail to reach those that are worst hit, especially with the fresh increase in petrol pump price,” the statement read.

The AYF also weighed in on the N8,000 monthly stipend provided to some families in the country, deeming it inadequate given the skyrocketing cost of goods and services triggered by two recent fuel price hikes. The group called for a review of the stipend amount to align with the current economic realities.

“We would be disappointed if the present policies fail to yield the desired results, just like some of our past governments,” the AYF cautioned.

In addition to addressing the subsidy removal issue, the AYF emphasized the urgency of implementing measures to tackle food security in the country. The group urged the federal government to inspire states to prioritize the agricultural revolution as a means of ensuring sufficient food production and availability.

“Such efforts would lead to the crashing of prices of food products through the natural law of demand and supply,” AYF advised.

Ultimately, the Arewa Youth Forum called on President Tinubu and his advisers to devise effective and lasting solutions to address the economic challenges faced by the nation.
