The National Director General of the Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights (CAHR), Barr. Maxwell Omemiroro Ogedegbe, has re-inuagurated the Abraka unit of CAHR, charging members of the unit to embrace peace and conduct themselves in a descent manner befitting their status as human rights activists.
Ogedegbe, who was accompanied to Abraka by Executive members of CAHR, to perform the inauguration rituals, also swore in nine persons into the newly constituted executive body to pilot the affairs of the CAHR Abraka Unit. The visibly happy Director General, congratulated the new executive, even as he expressed joy that the squabbles that hitherto punctured the peace in the Abraka unit had been resolved amicably thus paving way for the re-inauguration ceremony.
He tasked the incoming executive members on diligence, steadfastness and due commitment to their responsibilities, saying that team work is an indispensable asset for combating the challenges that would pop up in the coming days, as they steer the affairs of the human rights body.
Speaking on the fundamentals of human rights, the DG, Barr. Ogedegbe, took the members through the rudiments of human rights, and the inherent challenges that would confront activists in the course of their activities.
He encouraged the members to acquaint themselves with the extant laws of Nigeria in order to be abreast of the current and developing issues that bother on human rights. Continuing, Ogedegbe urged them to be bold as activists, even as he advised them to conduct their activities within the confine of the laws, stating that the world over, the vulnerable segment of society seeks help from activists when their rights are being trampled upon.
In the same vein, the President, UPU Youth wing, Comr. Umukoro Efemena, tasked the members of CAHR Abraka unit on selfless service, saying, “selflessness is the bedrock of human rights advocacy. He enjoined them to work as a team in pursuit of the goals the CAHR was founded to achieve.
The incoming executive thanked the DG, Barr. Ogedegbe for given them the opportunity to pilot the activities of CAHR Abraka Unit, and promised to work assiduously to achieve the mandate of CAHR. Adding that all hands would be on deck to promote and protect the rights of Deltans and Nigerians at large in line with the objectives of CAHR.
The occasion was spiced with exaltations by the State Director of CAHR, Deacon Enudi Monday.
The highpoint of the occasion was administration of oath to the incoming executive members by Comr. Isreal Arigbe while closing rark was given by Comr. Prince Godstime O.J.
