The Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights (CAHR), has expressed concern about attacks on government facilities across the country, even as it called on Deltans to disregard trending videos and rumours broadcasting that Ebrumede Police station was razed by protesting youths yesterday, October 23.
Briefing journalists on the development, Comrade Isreal Arigbe, State Secretary of CAHR, said that as a part of the group’s core mandates to protect the rights of Nigerians across board, it was necessary to respond to matters of public concern whenever the arose. His words, “there was an alledged plan by hoodlums to attack Ebrumede police station, but the plan was foiled by a combined team of police and soldiers who were timely on ground to restore law and order.”
Continuing, Comr. Arigbe said, “a team of CAHR officials, Pst. Edewor Egedegbe and l visited Ebrumede police station and confirmed that it was not touched by hoodlums, adding that another CAHR team headed by the DG, Barr. Omes Ogedegbe visited Ovwian police station as part of CAHR’s interventions to ensure a violence free Delta State.
“CAHR is strongly against every act of violence that will endanger societal peace, and had warned hoodlums to steer clear from stoking violence under the cover of the peaceful EndSARS protest,” Comrade Arigbe noted.
It would be recalled that CAHR has been in the vanguard of condemning the use of violence in the EndSARS protest across the country, a development that has put the ongoing protest in check across Delta State.
