ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwvoriole, SAN, has underscored the significance of judges from lower courts, including magistrates and customary courts, in the dispensation of justice.
Addressing members of the Customary Court Department and Magistracy during their courtesy visit to his office in Asaba, Ohwvoriole expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment of his appointment, particularly highlighting the honor it bestowed upon him as a representative of his constituency.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the state government’s objectives, which he defined as the enforcement of the rule of law within the state’s jurisdiction.
Responding to the group’s plea to extend the retirement age to 65, Ohwvoriole emphasized the necessity of adhering to established national procedures and guidelines for such matters, emphasizing that it was not solely within the state’s purview.
Acknowledging their support, Ohwvoriole reassured the delegation that all proceedings would be conducted in accordance with legal statutes.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Carl Moeteke, commended Ohwvoriole’s appointment, describing it as a fitting choice and expressing pride in his ascent from within the legal system to the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Moeteke advocated for an increase in the retirement age, citing examples from other states like Osun, Adamawa, and Kwara.
The visit culminated in the presentation of a comprehensive document to Ohwvoriole, symbolizing the exchange of insights and information.
Simultaneously, the State Attorney-General received members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Asaba Branch, led by its chairman, Mr. Precious Nwandimuya.
Nwandimuya articulated the purpose of the visit as an opportunity to acquaint themselves with Ohwvoriole’s role as a member of the branch and the State Attorney-General.
In response, Ohwvoriole sought the association’s support, pledging to serve as a liaison between the government and the legal fraternity, ensuring inclusivity in decision-making processes.
