ASABA/Nigeria: Following an extensive tour and assessment of libraries across Delta State, the Delta State Library Board, led by Chairman Barr. Innocent E. Ogboru, made a significant stride on February 14, 2024, to reignite the flame of literacy and learning in the state. In a well-attended ceremony, Barr. Ogboru inaugurated a dedicated six-member committee tasked with planning and executing a groundbreaking book fair exhibition, slated for April 2024 at the prestigious Delta State Library Headquarters in Asaba.
Chaired by Mr. Edozie Remy U., the committee boasts a blend of seasoned professionals and literacy advocates, including Comrade Vincent Ugbune, Mrs. Keboku Rita C., Mr. Chima Sabastine, and Mr. Oboreghare Benjamine. External media professional Prince Efe Rockson will lend his expertise to amplify the event’s reach.
Barr. Ogboru emphasized the critical nature of the committee’s assignment, envisioning an event not only celebrating literature but also serving as a strategic intervention to revive Delta State’s dwindling reading culture, particularly among the youth.
The book fair aims to be a convergence of minds, drawing industry experts, authors, publishers, and government dignitaries. It will launch the “Book Culture and School No Bi Scam” campaign, promoting academic excellence and a robust reading culture across schools.
In the upcoming weeks, the committee will engage in rigorous planning, focusing on inclusivity, digital integration, and nurturing local talent. Workshops, panel discussions, and seminars will address current trends in literacy, with awards recognizing contributions to the literary community.
With Barr. Innocent E. Ogboru leading the charge, the Delta State Library Board aims to transform the educational landscape, making books and reading essential tools for personal and societal growth once again.
