Against the backdrop of unsubstantiated and malicious criticisms regularly hauled at the Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma by members of the opposition camp in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), business mogul and stalwart of All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Anthony Nnajiuba, has advised the governor not to be distracted by critics of his government, even as he urged him to be steadfast with his developmental policies targeted at revamping the economy and infrastructure of the state.
Nnajiuba, gave the advice recently while speaking to journalists in Warri, Delta State. He expressed dismay at the amount of energy and quality time persons in the opposition camp expend sponsoring discord in the state for no justifiable reason, other than the emergence of Senator Hope Uzodinma as authentic governor of Imo state, following the nullification of the election of Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP as the governor of the state by the Supreme Court.
He described governor Uzodinma as an ambassador of peace and bastion of unity in the state, urging him to maintain the tempo.
“I am constrained to call on the members of the opposition party to shun malicious criticisms against the government of Senator Hope Uzodinma because no meaningful development can take place in the state in an atmosphere of rancour and divisive politicking. What should be the primary concern of every citizen of the state at this trying time is total support for Governor Hope Uzodinma in rebuilding Imo state and making it great again. I have seen too much distractions coming from the opposition camp in recent times; to be precise, the flood of baseless criticisms being orchestrated from the opposition camp and hurled at the governor call for concern. Most worrisome is that every good initiative and policy actions being taken by the governor to move the state forward are often met with fierce and unfounded criticisms sponsored by the opposition camp. I don’t see this vindictive inclinations as the right way to play politics; it is quite archaic and unfair. In fact, it should be jettisoned and expunged from our body politic,” he stated.
Continuing, the business mogul, charged members of the opposition parties to join hands with governor Uzodinma to rescue Imo state from the shackles of underdevelopment, poverty and decrepit infrastructure, saying that the challenges the governor is combating currently is quite enormous, just as he stated that collective efforts from the citizens were seriously needed to navigate the state out of troubled waters.
He said, “in this time of global economic meltdown, our state is in dire need of economic prosperity and governor Hope Uzodinma has shown unrivalled capacity and competence to deliver dividend of democracy and bring succour to the people of Imo state.
Speaking further, Nnajiuba, commended governor Uzodinma for his commitment towards recovering the oil wells lost to neighbouring states over the years. He noted that the constitution of a formidable team of delegation led by the Deputy Governor of the state who doubles as the Chairman of the Imo State Boundary Commission, Prof. Placid Njoku, to submit sensitive documents to the National Boundary Commission in Abuja on Thursday on behalf of the state government was a brave and commendable move to reclaim the contentious oil wells and raise the status of the state among oil producing states in Nigeria.
Nnajiuba noted that governor Uzodinma had demonstrated his sincerity and unalloyed commitment to run an inclusive government driven by strong institutions and people-oriented policies, saying that full support from the people of Imo state would inspire the governor to work assiduously to transform the state. He said, “Government is a continuum, it demands all hands to be on deck to achieve good governance in Imo state.”
