DTHA to Establish Law for Warri, Uvwie Development Agency

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly is currently advancing processes of establishing a law for Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency, in order for the State Government to intensify investment drive and restore the glory of Warri/Uvwie as one of the nation’s commercial nerve centers.

This was one of the focal points of a “Bill for a law for the establishment of Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency and its Governing Board” which passes Second Reading on the floor of the house.

Presenting the Executive Bill for debate today, the Majority Leader of the House Hon. Tim Kome Owhefere (Isoko North) said that the Bill when established with its board shall formulate and implement policies, programmes and project for the sustainable development of Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area as well as tackle ecological and environmental problems that will further restore the glory of Warri known as the rich Oil City.

Hon. Owhefere further commended the State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for the initiative and moves to develop Warri, urging his fellow law makers to as a matter of urgency see to the passage of the bill into law.

Although, the bill was unanimously adopted and passed second reading, but other members of the house who spoke in full support of it.

Hon. Rueben Izeze, member representing Ughelli South said that there was urgent need for a developing agency for Warri/Uvwie and Environs, and members of his constituency will be happy for it.

Meanwhile, Hon. Jane Edna Esievo, member representing Isoko South II Constituency said that she had lived most part of her life in Warri and that she was fully connected to city and expressed the belief that the state governor was a man with a vision for an accelerated development of Warri/Uvwie and Environs.

While Hon. Efe Ofobruku, member representing Uvwie Constituency also said that he was happy it happened in his own time and with the mandate of the Uvwie people, he was fully in support of the bill due to the fact that the agency would address some level of youth unemployment in the special areas, and the various projects that would spring up will attract lots of job opportunities for the people including the roadside shops.

Hon. Samuel Mariere, member representing Ughelli North Constituency I said that when the bill was passed into law, it would prepare and create master plans and schemes designed to promote the physical development of the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Areas, as well as tackle ecological and environmental problems.

Hon. Dennis Omovie, member representing Warri South II Constituency said that there was need to commend the state governor for being proactive in the development of Warri/Uvwie and Environs and members of his Constituency were proud of the governor for the noble initiative.
