BENIN-CITY/Nigeria: Ancient kingdom of Benin was agog as big wigs in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP storm Edo State capital to flag off the campaign for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the September 19, 2020 Governorship Poll in the State.
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state his counterparts in Delta, Sokoto and Rivers States, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Nyesome Wike among the guests that were in Benin city on a courtesy visit to the Palace of Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolopolo, Oba Ewuare II, on Saturday.
Other guests at the event included the Deputy Governor’s of Edo and Ondo States, Comrade Philip Shaibu Agboola Ajayi; Chairman of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi; Chief Tom Ikimi; Sen. Clifford Ordia and Barr. Ken Imasuagbon, among others.
The party said in a series of posts on its social media handle that the Obaseki and Shaibu Philip flag-off campaign is taking place at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, “with strict compliance with the coronavirus directives issued by the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for public gatherings.”
The visit to the revered Palace of the Oba came ahead of the flag-off of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s campaign for re-election in the September 19, 2020 Governorship poll in Edo State.
However the visit to the Palace of the Oba took a different dimension when over ten persons sustained varying degrees of injuries following an attack from hoodlums believed to be working for a major opposition party in the state
The over ten persons sustained the injuries from gunshots that greeted the party’s campaign flagoff in the ancient city thereby destroying campaign posters of the APC
The PDP campaign team led by its National Chairman, Uche Secondus, who had visited the Oba of Benin in his Palace to receive the Monarch’s royal blessings and prayers with his entourage just departed for Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, for the campaign before the attack was unleashed on some supporters of PDP.
It was alleged that the attack was occasioned by disagreement between supporters of PDP and APC led by Tony Adun aka Tony Kabaka who were reportedly at the Palace to welcome Benin Billionaire, Captain Hosa who was hosting dignitaries today to dedicate the Prince of the Monarch that was born some months ago.
