ASABA/Nigeria: In a resolute commitment to fostering collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of government, Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, assured that the House will steadfastly work in tandem with the Executive to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Delta State.
Reflecting on the accomplishments of the 8th Delta Assembly over the past seven months, Rt Hon Guwor disclosed that members of the Delta State Legislature would convene before the end of the month to delineate the legislative agenda for 2024.
He emphasized that this proposed framework would align with the MORE Agenda of the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori. This agenda, as described by Guwor, prioritizes enhancing the quality of life for Deltans and advancing basic infrastructural development in the state.
The Speaker reiterated the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities of representation, lawmaking, and oversight. He asserted, “More impactful bills, motions, and resolutions that would promote peace and good governance in the state will emanate from the Hallowed Chamber in 2024.”
Guwor, who serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of States Houses of Assembly, announced that the House would resume plenary on Tuesday, 16th January 2024, following the Christmas and New Year break.
He assured that the vibrancy of the House would be sustained throughout 2024 and encouraged members to continually enhance their performances to meet the expectations of constituents across the 29 constituencies in the state.
In retrospect, Guwor highlighted the legislative accomplishments of the 8th Delta State Assembly, revealing that seven bills had been received, including four executive bills and three private member bills.
Four of these bills have been passed, with three already assented to by the Governor, and one awaiting the Governor’s signature. The Speaker acknowledged members for their dedication and commitment, specifically lauding their legislative ingenuity in the thorough scrutiny and early passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill, signed into law by the Governor on 20th December 2023.
Assuring that the welfare and wellbeing of Deltans would remain paramount, Guwor emphasized the importance of training and retraining in 2024. He underscored that sound synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms is essential for good governance in Delta State, declaring that this camaraderie can never be compromised.
Guwor pledged to strengthen the love and unity of purpose among lawmakers in the 2024 legislative year, recognizing its significance in the advancement of the state. In conclusion, he charged members to remain diligent in discharging their legislative duties, emphasizing the crucial role their genuine services play in achieving the developmental goals of the state government.
