ENUGU/Nigeria: The Forum of South East Governors, the clergies and Leadership of the Traditional Rulers has formula called for restructuring, state police and the implementation of the Endsars recommendations.
The agreemenet was made at the end of the South East Governors Forum Security Meeting with the religious leaders and Traditional Leaders of the Zone, to see how to solve the recent challenges facing the region.
In a communique signed by the Chairman of the Governors Forum, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, and Governor of Ebonyi State, at the end of the meeting held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 in Enugu, came up with resolutions that can build confidence amongst the people of the zone.
According to the communique, the considered and endorsed the establishment of a common security outfit called Ebubeagu, with its regional headquarters in Enugu. They stated that the outfit will work with the police and other security agencies in her operations to protect lives and property in South East.
To effect immediate operations of the regional Security outfit, the meeting directed the Attorneys General and Commissioners for Justice of the South East States to work with the Joint Security Committee to come up with the amendment of the existing State Laws to reflect the new outfit.
The meeting went further to set up an Advisory Board for the security outfit;
To further bring peace and unity in the region, the meeting directed Ohaneze Ndigbo President to immediately form two Committees, which are South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee to engage the people for peace and security, and Strategy and Welfare Committee to engage and protect our people, especially those who are being unfairly treated.
These Committees must become functional within the next 10 (ten) days from date of the meeting.
On restructuring and police, the meeting affirmed its support for restructuring, the setting up of State Police and other national issues as discussed in the last NEC meeting.
A Committee has been set up to work out acceptable modalities and submit them to NEC in its next meeting.
The meeting condemns the attacks on the country home of the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma and other State
Infrastructure. We sympathize with him and call on the Federal Government to fish out the perpetrators and ensure their prosecution;
To further strengthen the security of the people, the leaders restated their commitments to State laws banning open grazing in the region and urge the security agencies and the local vigilantes to enforce the ban in all States of South East.
It was also agreed on the need to implement of various END SARS Youth Empowerment Programmes in the South East States as soon as possible.
