Members of the Niger Delta Women In Dialogue, on Thursday, 18, embarked on a sensitisation campaign, themed, “Choose To Challenge” in commemoration of the 2021 International Women’s Day, held on March 8.

The campaign was held in Warri, headquarters of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State and aimed to inspire women to speak truth to power in their homes and communities, with a view to making a better society.

Birthing the campaign at Okere market, Warri, the group passionately called on women to be change agents in their homes and communities, urging them to change their lives for good.

Speaking to journalists, Deputy Convener of the sensitisation campaign, Mrs. Mary Fuludu, said, “in commemoration of the 2021 International Women’s Day, usually marked on March 8, every year, we are calling on women to be change agents in their homes and communities. We are reaching out to women through this medium to sensitise them about the compelling need to change their lives for good. We are inspiring them to be leaders of their homes by instilling moral values and molding the character of their children.

Continuing, Fuludu said, “we are using this medium to urge women to scale up their duties as homemakers; they should correct their husbands when they are toeing the wrong path; they should correct their male children when they become wayward and morally disgruntled; they should also correct their female children when they are veering off the right path. We implore women to be better citizens in the society.

“As homemakers, we challenge women to step up their commitment to making our society a better place by speaking up against rising vices in the society,” she stated.

The well organised and peaceful campaign attracted a crowd of passersby, as the women, accompanied by scores of men, carried placards with inspiring inscriptions.
