The Executive arm of the Youth Council of Emonu community in Orogun kingdom, has been formally inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the youth body for three years.
While administering the oath of office to members (youths) of the Executive of the Youth Council, the President General of Emonu-Orogun, Hon. (Chief) Henry Itedjere, charged them to abide by the extant laws of the land and carry out their functions within the ambit of the constitution of the youth body and that of the community.
Continuing, he implored them to galvanize the youths for community service, even as he stated that lawlessness would not be condoned, stressing that in the event of flagrant violations of the laws of the land by the Executive body, he would not hesitate to activate potent legal actions and summarily dissolve the Executive.
Speaking further, Chief Itedjere noted that government is a continuum, stating that it was expedient to inaugurate the Executive of the Youth Council to complement the Okpara in council and the Emonu Development Union (EDU) whose primary concern is fostering love, unity and development in the community.
Worried about the challenges bedevilling the community, Chief Itedjere beseeched the youths to play a supportive role to complement efforts being made to find a lasting solution to the challenges.
Looking forward to continuous development of Emonu community in the coming years, Chief Itedjere announced to the youths that the position of Community Liaison Officer of Songai company has been given to Ukoene, a member of the community, stating that more opportunities are being expected in the coming years.
While expressing confidence in the calibre of the Executive body of the Youth Council, he advised the youths not to dwell on rumour, but carry out their activities backed with facts and credible evidence.
Also speaking, the Okpara of Emonu (king) gave his royal blessing to the newly inaugurated youth body and advised them to regularly seek good counsel on all issues while carrying out their duties. He charged the youths who are not members of the newly inaugurated Executive to always work with the new Executive to inspire them to make great achievements.
In his acceptance speech, the President of the Youth Council, Chikwendu Newman Nyerhovwo, thanked the Okpara in council, the President General (PG) and the entire Emonu people for finding him competent and worthy to serve the community and promote unity, love, progress and unfettered development of the community.
The youth leader assured that the Executive would not fail on its responsibilities. He thanked Deacon Monday Enudi for his support and other well-meaning Emonu sons and daughters for supporting the youth body and making the ceremony a huge success.
He said, “the youth body would operate within the confine of rule of law.”
The newly inaugurated members of the Executive include: Chikwendu Newman Nyerhovwo – President, Sylvester Okpako, Vice-President; Isaac Odjago Akporhere – Secretary; Thankgod Ekpeti – Treasurer; Richard Osedji, Financial Secrectary; and Odiru Felix – Provost.
