OBIARUKU/Nigeria: Residents in Obiaruku, of Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, Tuesday, February 23, 2021, taken to the streets to celebrate the arrest by the local vigilante group of some notorious kidnappers who have been terrorising the people, particularly farmers in the area.
The arrest, which some have described as miraculous, happened on the 22nd of February as one of the kidnappers, who simply identified himself as Chidi, an indigene of Obiaruku, reported himself to the Onotu-Ukwu General (the most senior chief in Obiaruku kingdom), High Chief Dickson Odogwu, and confessed of the deadly activities of his gang.
This confession, according to some elders of the kingdom, was linked to the continuous prayers and incantations by the communities’ high priests and women.
Chidi told the Onotu General that he was a member of the kidnapping gang that had been terrorising the Obiaruku bushes and neighboring farmlands.
Upon hearing that from Chidi, the Onotu Ukwu of Obiaruku, invited other chiefs and men of the local vigilante group to hear directly from Chidi’s himself.
Chidi went further to describe his gang as the most deadly kidnapping gang ever, describing their method of kidnapping, collecting of ransom and killing of victims as the most gruesome type in history.
According to him, victims were butchered into pieces, even after collecting ransoms and the various human parts removed and sold to Alhajis and Yahoo boys for rituals.
He said that Yahoo boys and Alhajis were always on ground to buy the human parts, adding that they struggle to meet up with their demand.
He confessed further that the most deadly person among them who was also the Chief Butcher, hailed from Umuaja, a neighbouring community in the area.
This deadly person, he said, had a white handkerchief with which he used to disappear when facing arrest.
After listening to the horrendous tale, Obiaruku local vigilante group swung into action, took Chidi to Obinomba and lured ‘the chief butcher’ into their net. The handkerchief was in his pocket but he was not allowed to use it, as he was grabbed with force.
The matter was promptly reported to the Police in Obiaruku and the deadly kidnappers handed over to the operatives for further investigations into their dastardly acts in the locality.
Efforts by the reporter to get more revelations from the kidnappers have been abortive as police have closed all entrances to their station.
Men, women and young ones continued their jubilations, dancing round streets and roads in the communities as they hope to recover the kidnapped ones.
