ASABA/Nigeria: The Traditional ruler of Ogodor, a community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Sunday Olisewokwu.
A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the monarch who is the Chairman of Aniocha North Traditional Rulers Committee was abducted at the weekend, wounding two of his aides in the heat of the abduction
Recently, Obi Olisewokwu, had in a letter addressed to the Permanent secretary, Directorate of chieftaincy Affairs, Deputy Governor’s office Asaba, on behalf of Aniocha North kings , dated 3rd May 2018, titled ” RE -APPOINTMENT OF PRINCE JUSTIN OREZE CHUKWUNONSO NWOKO AS THE OBI OF IDUMUJE UGBOKO KINGDOM ” warned that non adherence to established procedure in crowning a new obi could ” lead to mayhem ” and unprecedented violence in Idumuje Ugboko.
In the letter signed by the obi of Ogodor and the secretary of Aniocha North traditional rulers committee, Mr. Nwaokolo Louis, the traditional rulers noted that beyond customary guidelines for royal ascension ” there are many court cases challenging the enthronement of Nonso Nwoko of which the Aniocha North traditional rulers committee is a party ”
Some observers are linking the abduction to the position of the chairman, and members of the Traditional council of the area, on the lingering crises in Idumuje Ugboko Royal dispute, as the counsil had insited that due process be followed in the face of several court cases on the issue of the right person to ascend the throne.
Recently, tension rosed in the Idumuje Ugboko community Senator representing Delta North visited the community, and was welcomed by Prince Nonso Nwoko where he reportedly received “royal blessings” from Nonso Nwoko on behalf of the Idumuje Ugboko people, which in a letter by Chief Chris Ogwu faulted the ascription of Nonso Nwoko as the Obi of the community.
As at the time of filling this report, the state police command has not responded to enquiry on the abduction.
