ASABA/Nigeria: As the spirit of Nigerians 57th Independence rages, a clergy and an Aide to the Delta state governor had called for true repentance as a lasting solution to the many problems facing the country.

Speaking at the side of the interdenominational service organised by the state governor to mark the anniversary in Asaba, Bishop Greatman Nmalagu, who is the Executive Assistant to the governor on Religious Matters, said that while independence is all about self rule to avoid slavery and untold hardship, the experiences, the nation has been going through different problems such as recession, high rate of crime, political instability for many years, all caused by different type factors hinging on sins.

He said for the nation to move out of the numerous problems, which had hindered the progress and development of the country, both leaders and the led must truly repent from sin.

“Unless all leaders and the led truly repent from sin we cannot enjoy the independence we got since 1960 because it is only righteousness that exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people according to Proverb 14:34”.

The bishop said it is only when God by his mercy pardons the people, and they individually and collectively confess their sins and repent from then, he will intervene for the country.

“The consequences of sin are evil occurrences. It is when a given people humble themselves and repent from wickedness God will provide solutions to their problems caused by evil deeds”.

“We can only truly enjoy independence when we please God”.

“If every Nigerian will turn away from sin and we faithfully serve God and pray very well, then he will hear us from heaven and heal our Nation Nigeria”.

Making further reference to the scripture, he said “My fellow Nigerians; brethren whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

He called on every individual, families and corporate bodies to truly repent from sins so that the nation will get out from the troubles affecting her.
