NPDC/FHN Offers Free Medical Treatment To Flood Ravaged Delta Communities

The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) with its JV  partner, First Hydrocarbons Nigeria Limited (FHN), has commenced free medical treatment  in Okpe-Isoko, Lagos-Iyede,Onogboko and Ivrogbo communities in Isoko South, Ndokwa East, and Isoko North Local Government Areas of Delta State, to cater to the health needs of the victims of the flood that ravaged the communities in recent past.

The free medical treatment was flagged off on Wednesday 6, February with a team of medical personnel and a despatch of drugs to meet the health needs of the people.

The health programme is being organised in collaboration with CECY Health Consult, a nongovernmental organisation  (NGO).

Speaking to journalists at Okpe-Isoko community hall, one of the centres of the programme, Dr. Yomi Durojaye, head of the medical team, said ailments such as malaria, hypertension, diabetes, eye problems, including pregnant women will be given attention.

Briefing the Ovie of Okpe-Isoko kingdom, HRM, Felix Ekpolo II, on the free medical scheme, in the presence of Mr. Blessyn Okpowo, Community Affairs Manager at NPDC/FHN 26, and Mr. Emmanuel Eleh-Okah, Community Liaison Officer, Dr. Yomi said “the scheme focuses on primary health care.” Saying “it avails the people of the community opportunity to access the services of qualified doctors free of charge and also get free quality drugs including standard mosquito nets.”

Continuing, Dr. Yomi said that one of the cardinal objective of the scheme was to roll back malaria in the communities, noting that special mosquito nets will be given to pregnant women in addition to delivery packs to enable them deliver their babies safely. 

“Other persons who will be given medical treated at the programme will also receive free mosquito nets,” Dr. Yomi added.

He continued, “in addition to the free medication,  schools in the communities will be visited and pupils will be educated on personal hygiene after which hygiene packs will be given to them to improve their personal hygiene.

In his remark, the Okpe-Isoko monarch expressed satisfaction at the commitment over time displayed by NPDC/FHN towards enhancing the wellbeing of the Okpe-Isoko people and Isoko nation in general. He described the indigenous companies’ operations and community development policy as marvellous, noting that good health is paramount in human life. He prayed God to bless the management of NPDC/FHN for the thoughtful free medical initiative. 

A large number of  beneficiaries including pregnant women, youths, women, men and the aged were treated for various ailments and given free drugs, even as eyeglasses and currective lenses were also given to persons that presented eye problems.

The beneficiaries of the free medical treatment expressed gratitude to NPDC/FHN for the initiative.

The President General of Lagos-Iyede community, Engr. Lucky Otuorimuo, thanked NPDC/FHN for flagging off the health scheme, noting the importance of medical care to the wellbeing of the   people of the Lagos-Iyede community.   

The free medical scheme  is one of the segments of NPDC/FHN’s sustained Coorporate Social Responsibility to its host communities in the OML 26 field, in recent times.
