Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Mr. Chika Ossai.

ABRAKA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Mr. Chika Ossai, has underscored the importance of education in the realisation of the objectives and aspirations in the socioeconomic, political and technological development of the country.

Mr. Ossai stated this in a goodwill message on the occasion of the 2021 Annual Day celebration of the National Association of Proprietors and Private Schools (NAPPS), Delta State Chapter, held at Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner, who was represented on the occasion by his Technical Assistant and Assistant Director of Education in the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education,  Dr. Michael  Emeshili, recalled the devastating effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the education and other critical sectors of the economy.

Mr. Ossai said that the situation became worst with the growing insecurity, adding that the theme of the celebration: “Curbing Rising Spate of Insecurity-Way Forward for the Education in Nigeria” was timely and apt.

He stated that national objectives might not be attained where various indicators of standards, especially the product of education system, had shown steady decline.

The commissioner noted that the roles of school proprietors and teachers were key as deliberate strategies to salvage the situation, saying that they should rededicate themselves to the common goal of taking the education sector to greater heights.

Mr. Ossai, however, reaffirmed the determination of the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to continue to improve the standard of education in the state through several strategies, stressing that school proprietors and teachers should work as a team and shun acts capable of causing disunity among themselves.
