ASABA/Nigeria: Parents have been identified as the cause of dwindling population of students in comprehensive secondary school at Idumuje Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government of Delta State.
The Principal of the school, Mr Jackson Onwusiwakwe, who stated this today while playing host to newsmen in his office, in Idumuje-Ugboko, said that parent do not encourage their children and ward to register for WAEC in the school, rather, they prefer ‘miracle centres’.
He attributed this as the reason why the school had not been able to register students for WAEC examination for the past five years, just as he disclosed that the students’ enrollment was not encouraging.
Mr Onwusiwakwe, however, commended the state government for the building of two block of five classrooms with science laboratory.
He particularly hailed the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for the provision of chairs and table for students.
The principal, nevertheless, added that there was need to post science teachers for the schools
Meanwhile, the state PDP publicity Secretary who was the contractor that handled the project, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza had earlier lauded the state governor Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the building of the two blocks for the school.
