ASABA/Nigeria: Renowned Professor of Mass Communication and Head of Department of Mass Communication at Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU), Prof Godwin Ehiarekhian Oboh, shall attend the Strategic Political Communication Workshop as Chief Trainer and Tasks Coordinator.
The post election and end of first tenure brainstorming communication workshop organised by the Office of the Executive Assistant (Communications) to the Governor of Delta State in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to Delta State Government; is scheduled to hold from Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th May, 2019 at Orchid Hotel, DBS road, Asaba.
Executive Assistant on Communication to the Governor of Delta State, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe said in a statement that the organisers places high premium on the role of the Chief Trainer and Tasks Coordinator, adding that Prof Oboh is a core professional and does not compromise when it comes to intellectual tasks deadlines, especially time structured training meant to sharpen skills of participants.
He disclosed that the workshop is going to be a knowledge driven exercise that will redirect the mental and intellectual capacity of participants in creative writing, media crisis management, hate speech issues, 3D Investigative mechanism, propaganda agenda setting and diversionary tactics in constitutional democracy and governance et al; as we prepare for the Stronger Delta Agenda of Gov Ifeanyi Okowa’s second tenure.
Prof Oboh obtained a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Derby, United Kingdom, having earlier had MA and BA Degrees in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Delta State University, Abraka respectively.
He was a pioneer staff at the department of Mass Communication, Covenant University. He joined Benson Idahosa University in 2005 as lecturer 1.
Oboh authored “Role of Political Communication In The Interactive Process Between Nigerian Politicians And Electorate In The Fourth Republic (2006)” as well as “Mass Media, Elections And Good Governance: Implications For National Development.
He is the Associate Editor, Journal of Communication and Media Research. He serve in the editorial boards of some foreign journals. He has articles in refereed journals and books being the spinoff of the conferences and workshops he attended within and outside the country.
He co-authored Mass Media in Nigerian Democracy in 2008 with Professor Fred Omu, one-time member of the MacBride Commission. Oboh is the author of Mediatisation of Nigerian Elections: Issues and Perspectives for African Democracy, published in 2014.
Prof Oboh is a member of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), and the International Communication Association (ICA) in the Washington DC, United States.
