Olorogun David Edevbie

By Dr. Godwin Orhadahwe

UGHELLI/Nigeria: The People’s Democratic Party, PDP Elders and Leaders Forum in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State has given its full support to the governorship ambition of Olorogun David Edevbie, in line with the position of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU. The Forum made its stand known on the 11th of May, 2022 at Agbarha-Otor, when Olorogun David Edevbie led his campaign team on a consultation visit to the critical stakeholders.

The Ughelli North Elders and Leaders Forum said the time has come for Deltans to elect Olorogun Edevbie as the Governor of Delta State, following his wealth of many years of cognate experience and requisite credentials at the local, national and international levels. The Forum urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to allow Delta Central produce the next Governor in 2023, according to the PDP’s governorship rotation arrangement that has given victory to the Party in Delta State since 1999.

In their separate comments, Chief Andrew Asawota, Chief Morrison Olori, Mr. Morrison Idiovwa, and many other members of the Forum expressed confidence in Olorogun Edevbie’s capacity, ability and competence to govern the State prosperously, adding that Urhobo and Delta State are lucky to have David Edevbie, an investment banker and a development economist as the foremost Guber aspirant for the seat of Governor in 2023.

While assuring Edevbie of their 100 per cent votes at the coming PDP primaries, the PDP Elders and Leaders appealed to all Deltans to accept the endorsement of Edevbie by the UPU, the umbrella body of Urhobo Nation. According to them, with David Edevbie as the Governor, Delta State will experience rapid physical and socio-economic development like Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, as well as Cross Rivers States, within a short period of time.

Earlier, Olorogun David Edevbie described his aspiration as an Ughelli North mandate. He told Urhobo Nation not to be intimidated because he has what it takes to be the Governor of Delta State. He lamented that Ughelli North has nothing to show for its loyalty since 1999, stressing that it is now the turn of Ughelli North to produce the Governor, and asked the delegates to support him 100% at the primary election.

Also speaking, Olorogun Engr. Matthew Edevbie told the Ughelli North Elders and Leaders that the race is not for David Edevbie alone but for the Urhobo Nation, Ughelli North and South Areas in particular. He said he is pained by the abysmal underdevelopment of Ughelli North from 1999 till date, despite the fact that Ughelli Area is the melting pot of Urhobo politics.

Engr. Matthew Edevbie described Urhobo as the luckiest child of Africa but unfortunately, Urhobo people are being used by external forces to work against themselves. According to him “all the companies in Urhobo land have either gone moribund or have totally collapsed.” He noted that Urhobo people suddenly became second class citizens in their own land despite its population advantage because of individualism and the pursuit of personal rather than collective interest.

In his words, “Urhobo existence is threatened. Our children are now the Almajiris of the South South. The 5th largest ethnic group in Nigeria has suddenly become the least developed. Why should Urhobo have ten aspirants in the race and eight are sponsored by the Government? It is to make Urhobo Nation miss the opportunity to produce the Governor, and if that happens, we will have to wait for sixteen years before the opportunity comes to us again. We have been deeply embarrassed and now we are heading for destruction. A vote for David Edevbie, therefore, is a vote for, not only the Urhobo Nation, but also for the socio-economic emancipation of the whole of Delta State. Don’t betray your people and your children’s future even as you take what is offered to you by those sponsoring other aspirants.”

“Na only David Edevbie know the time, and na him go fit do the work of Governor among all the aspirants. Delta State should be happy that David Edevbie with track record of job performance all over the world wants to be the Governor of the State. All our ports and companies that are dead due to many years of neglect, will be revived; our many jobless youths will be employed and taken off the streets, crimes and violence will be drastically reduced in Delta State. Please give your votes to Olorogun David Edevbie to save Delta State from going down,” he appealed.

The consultation visit was rounded off by Chief Morrison Olori’s prayers for the success of David Edevbie and his Guber mandate. “I stand on the UPU’s endorsement of David Edevbie as the next Governor of Delta State,” he concluded. The Delta Central Coordinator of Olorogun David Edevbie Campaign Organization, Crown Prince GodwIn Ejinyere, who is also the Duke of Orerokpe District, was among those who accompanied Olorogun David Edevbie on the consultation visit.
