AWKA/Nigeria: Ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, members of the State Vigilante Groups under the umbrella name of “Anambra Vigilante Group” (AVG) have vowed to support the State Governor, Dr Willie Obiano in order to ensure a landslide victory for him.
Members of the group expressed their confidence in Gov Obiano’s leadership qualities and his ability to take Anambra State to the next level.
The Groups made the vow during the tour by the Chairman, State Vigilante Supervisory Committee, CP Ikechukwu Aduba (Rtd), and his entourage to the three Senatorial Zones of the State, saying that Gov Obiano has done well, particularly in the area of ensuring security of life and property in the state.
They, therefore, vowed to resist any attempt to scuttle the forthcoming governorship election in the State with their last energy and do everything within the law to checkmate any possible intrusion of troubleshooters from neighboring states.
While saying that they were prepared to make good their vow by collaborating with the Police and other law enforcement agencies, the group also pledged to exercise their mandate by voting en mass for Gov Obiano on the day of the election and to sustain their fight against crime at the grassroots with renewed vigor.
They expressed gratitude to the Governor for his commitment to security in the state and support for the AVG.
In his response, Chairman, Anambra State Vigilante Supervisory Committee, CP Ikechukwu Aduba (Rtd) commended the efforts of the AVG personal generally in the fight against crime in the state, promising them that Gov Obiano was aware of their efforts in apprehending criminals, recovering arms and feeding the Police with useful information.
To this end, he promised them that, in due time, their welfare package shall be reviewed upwards with insurance coverage to cater for those who may lose their lives on duty.
He, therefore, underscored the need for philanthropists and public spirited Anambrarians to assist the State Government in uplifting the AVG operations and specifically acknowledged the contributions of Chief Nwosu Peter, who donated a patrol vehicle and five million naira to the group in Anambra South zone.
CP Aduba also, urged members of the group to come out in large number on November 18 to provide the desired security for the people during and after the governorship election and also exercise their franchise by ensuring the return of Gov Obiano to Government House for a second term.
He reiterated the fact that any attempt to disrupt the governorship election on November 18 will be resisted, adding that, any lover of progress should know that election is one of the dividends of democracy which allows the electorate to choose a leader of their choice and as such, the November 18 election is a done deal.
Others on CP Aduba’s entourage were Chief Chike Odili Anara, (SA Security), Mr. Christopher Osta (SSA Security and Secretary, State Vigilante Supervisory Committee), Chief Alex Onukwise (National President of Presidents ASTU and ACP Charles Osegbue (Rtd). Over five thousand AVG contingents were on hand to welcome the AVG leadership at their respective zones.
