ASABA/Nigeria: Nigeria Association of Woman Journalists (NAWOJ) Delta state chapter has condemned strongly the recent viral video where a woman was seen stripped naked for alleged pilfering from a supermarket.
In a statement signed by the chairperson and secretary of the association, Pat Gbemudu and Eunice Emeyezia respectively indicated that such an act is rather unfortunately, barbaric and cruel in all aspect of human dignity.
NAWOJ opined that the events in recent times orchestrated by the covid-19 could have promoted various form of temptation especially if such a woman is being confronted by a situation of hunger facing her household.
NAWOJ however, condemned the act of stealing in any form but taking to jungle justice rather than handing over the suspect to the rightful authorities must not be encouraged.
The chairperson and the secretary respectively are calling on the Commissioner of Police, Delta state to as a matter of urgency invite the management of Wilmark supermarket and all those involved in this crude act for questioning to serve as a determent of people taking to jungle justice in future.
