ASABA/Nigeria: Delta state government has reiterated its commitment to eradicate poverty and sustain food security through numerous Agriculture empowerment program in the state.
Speaking at the 2017 world food day celebration with the Theme “change the future for migration. Invest in food security and Rural development”, the state commissioner for Agriculture and rural development Hon Austin Chikezie revealed that the state government under the leadership of Sen ifeanyi Okowa, have embarked into partnership with different Agro private sector such as the CBN Anchor Borrower program, which is driven by the state government to encourage commercial farming to thrive successfully in the state, while maintaining that the state government had also put adequate plans to ensuring food sufficiency and rural development through the various empowerment program for genuine farmers.
The commissioner for Agriculture also said that the state government adopted community friendly sustainable Agro practices such as cooperative farming cluster, fish farming cluster, youth empowerment programs with a view to reducing youth restiveness, create Job opportunities and other developmental projects as enclose in the Smart Agenda Mantra.
Meanwhile the state governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa in his goodwill message delivered by the Chief of staff Government House Hon Tam Brisibe, disclosed that the need to diversify the economy and reduce undue dependence on proceeds from oil was paramount and has led to the desire of his administration to create an enabling environment for farming to thrive in the state, maintaining that the state government shall continue a structured relationship with the farming populace to enhance production of all farm products for the overall benefit of mankind.
