Intrepid human rights Activist, journalist and Executive Director of Global Action Against Hunger, Crime and Violations of the People’s Rights (GAHCAVPER), Comrade Emeka Nwokocha, has called on the governor of Delta State to hit the ground running with his M.O.R.E template for good governance, saying, “Your 100 Days in office will restore or wreck hopes of Deltans who have longed for good governance but to no avail.”
He charged governor Sheriff Oborevwori not to waste time in kick-starting the implementation of his people-oriented policies to assuage the feelings of the masses, stating that, “Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has a huge task in his hands to lay a solid development foundation in the state to meet the yearning and aspiration of patriotic Deltans.”
Comrade Nwokocha, made the statement recently during the launch of “After Election, What Next (AFEW-N)” – a good governance tracking platform, in Warri, headquarters of Warri South local government area of Delta State.
Comrade Nwokocha, who doubles as the National Coordinator of AFEW-N, said that, “The launch of AFEW-N, is a crucial step towards monitoring public office holders to ensure the huge gap between democratic government and good governance in Nigeria is shrinked.”
Comrade Nwokocha continued, “Achieving the objectives of AFEW,-N is a compelling task for us as we strenghten our call to political office holders to deliver the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.”
Speaking further, Comrade Nwokocha said, “AFEW-N is the collective ideas of good spirited Nigerians from the media, academia, legal institution, and other disciplines who are passionate about changing the ugly narrative of governance in Nigeria and pressure the drivers of our democracy to imbibe culture of discipline, efficiency, prudency, and accountability in order to improve the standard of living of poor Nigerians who have been victims of bad governance over the decades.”
He said, “AFEW-N will collaborate with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), international organizations and individuals promoting good governance around the democratic space of our country.”
He noted, “Our mandate is simply to monitor public officers across board to ensure they improve governance and well-being of the people, being the primary purpose they were elected or appointed (in the case of nonelected officers).
“It’s a huge task we have decided to undertake to ensure this new political dispensation wears a new look that will translate to everything good governance is about.
“Therefore, we are calling on the government of His Excellency, Sheriff Oborevwori to collaborate with AFEW-N as we begin in earnest the tracking of the implementation of his policies towards achieving his administration’s development agenda, tagged, “M.O.R.E.”
Comrade Nwokocha reiterated, “Every serious government in Nigeria would not waste time in putting its acts together and start serious work to drive socioeconomic development with unprecedented speed.”
